MMU Birley Fields

We are pleased to announce that Woodford Plastics Ltd will be supplying and installing all the underground utility services throughout the new 15 acre MMU site in the heart of Manchester.

Birley Fields in Hulme represents the final stage of a £350m investment in new campus facilities for Manchester Metropolitan University. It is the largest construction project in our ten year plan to consolidate from seven campus locations to two (Manchester and Cheshire) by 2014

Major Investment & Consultation

Covering a 15 acre site to the south of Manchester City Centre, we are fully aware that Birley Fields is a key development project for the Hulme ward and will provide a major focal point within the neighbourhood.

Our detailed consultation was according to Manchester City Council one of the most extensive ever undertaken for a major development in the area.

The consultation with local residents, stakeholders, MCC and students, took more than two years to complete, and received overwhelming support for the development.

Bordered by Stretford Road, Old Birley Street and Princess Road, the site has been earmarked for development by the City Council since clearance in the early 1990s.

Our plans are to relocate two academic faculties, Health, from a site near the main Hospitals in Fallowfield, and Education, from a major campus site in Didsbury

Woodford Plastics was awarded this prestigious North West project by NG Bailey, one of the UK's leading mechanical contracting companies. The main contractor for the project is Sir Robert McAlpine.
